burger fun

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 12, 2026

burger fun (burgerfun.ca) is a personal website made by Josh Hamburger in Ontario, Canada. It hosts free browser games and math and puzzle tools. This page explains what information the site handles, why, and what choices you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

  • There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for. The site never asks for your name, email or payment details.
  • Game progress (streaks, solved puzzles, settings) is saved in your own browser with localStorage. It never leaves your device and we cannot see it.
  • Google Analytics 4 measures how the site is used, in aggregate. Google AdSense shows ads on some of the search and collection pages. Both use cookies or similar identifiers, and both can be limited with the controls described below.
  • Rename America stores the renames people submit. It keeps a hashed form of the submitting IP address only to limit abuse; the hash is not linked to a name or account.

What is collected, and how

Usage data

When you visit, standard technical information is processed by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and by Google Analytics: your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you open, the time and date of the visit, how long you stay, and the size of your screen. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses, and we do not use its user-ID feature; we look at it as counts and trends, never as individual visitors. Cloudflare also keeps short-lived request logs to run and protect the site.

Game and tool data stored in your browser

Daily puzzles, the Reflex Lab, The Lost Games and most other games remember your progress in localStorage so a streak survives a reload. That data stays on your device. Clearing site data in your browser erases it, and there is no copy anywhere else to restore it from.

Rename America

When you rename a place on the map, the new name and the time are saved to a public database and shown to everyone. To slow floods and enforce bans the server stores a one-way hash of the submitting IP address next to each rename, not the address itself. Please do not type personal information into a rename; it is public and other visitors can overwrite or report it.

Email

If you email us, we keep the message so we can reply. It is not added to any list and is not shared.

Cookies and similar technologies

burger fun itself sets no cookies. Third-party services used on the site do:

  • Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (the _ga family) to tell one visit from the next. They contain a random identifier, not personal details.
  • Google AdSense and its advertising partners may set cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) or read advertising identifiers on your device to serve ads and to measure whether they were seen or clicked. On pages that show ads, Google may use these to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Some search and collection pages on burger fun display ads served by Google AdSense. Game pages and interactive tools do not carry ads. Google is a third-party vendor and uses cookies and advertising identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites on the internet. Advertising identifiers are shared with Google only through its own scripts on those pages; we do not receive or store them.

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings and from many other vendors at www.aboutads.info/choices. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent choice before personalised ads are used, in line with Google’s requirements. Details of how Google uses information from sites that use its services are published at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

How the information is used

  • To run the site, keep it up, and stop abuse (Cloudflare logs, the hashed IP in Rename America).
  • To understand which games and pages people use, in aggregate, so the site can be improved (Google Analytics).
  • To fund the site with ads on a small number of pages (Google AdSense).
  • To answer you when you write to us.

We do not sell personal information, build profiles, or share data with anyone other than the service providers named above, each of which processes it under its own privacy policy.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the games keep working.
  • Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Analytics measuring you on any site.
  • Turn off personalised ads at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.
  • Ask us to remove a Rename America entry, or to tell you what (if anything) we hold that relates to you, by email. Because there are no accounts, the honest answer is usually “nothing we can tie to you”.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. There is nothing to sign up for, so there is nothing to submit. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, tell us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

The weird-browser-games directory and some game pages link to other people’s websites. Those sites have their own policies and we have no control over them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with an updated date at the top. Material changes (for example, ads on new kinds of pages) will be mentioned on the page for a while after they happen.
