How it works

  • The same four digits are dealt to everyone on the same UTC calendar day — the hand is a pure function of the date, so there is no server and nothing to update.
  • Every daily hand is guaranteed solvable: hands are drawn only from the hands that can make 24, verified by an exhaustive solver with exact fraction arithmetic.
  • Most days lean toward medium difficulty so they feel fair. One day a week — Friday (UTC) — is a hard Friday with a single-solution hand.
  • A hint reveals the first operation of a shortest solution and counts against your result. Solving or giving up reveals every distinct solution.
  • Your current streak, max streak, days played, and solve rate live in your browser only. The archive lets you replay any past day; archive solves are recorded but do not extend your streak.

Is everyone playing the same puzzle today?

Yes. Today's four digits come from a deterministic function of the UTC date, so every player worldwide gets the identical hand on the same calendar day — no matter when or where they open the page.

Is today's hand always solvable?

Always. The daily hand is picked only from the hands that can make 24, which were found by an exhaustive solver using exact fraction arithmetic. There is no chance of a dead hand.

How does the streak work?

Your streak counts consecutive UTC days you solve the live daily. Solve today after solving yesterday and it goes up; miss a day and it resets to 1 on your next solve. Solving hands from the archive does not extend the streak — that is reserved for the day's live puzzle.

What does the hint do?

A hint reveals the top-level first operation of one shortest solution — a nudge, not the answer. Using it counts against your result and shows up in your share line, so a hintless solve reads cleaner.

What is a hard Friday?

Most days are weighted toward medium hands so the daily stays fair. Every Friday (UTC) is a hard Friday: the hand has exactly one distinct solution — the brutal tier — so there is a single road to 24 and you have to find it.

Can I play past days?

Yes. The archive replays any past day back to launch using the same deterministic scheme, so a given date always deals the same hand. Past-day solves are recorded toward your days-played and solve-rate stats, but they do not extend your daily streak.
